Vaccination – The Most Heated Debate In History.

VaccinationVaccination – yikes!

This surely must be one of the most heated debates in existence. For any parent, who honestly and objectively looks at both sides of the issue it is so unbelievably confusing. Google ‘child vaccination’ and I’m sure you’ll see what I mean (as you probably have already done!)

I’m neither for vaccine nor against it. I’m also certainly not an expert on the subject. My view with this issue is about simply protecting my child the best way I can. I have never been one to just go along with the crowd however, and so I have had many serious questions about vaccination. I wanted to find out particularly why some people are so very against it.

Unfortunately as everything is so PRO vaccination, one of the most particularly challenging things I found as a parent with questions about it, was the hard hitting criticism I received simply by asking! All I wanted to do is make an informed decision.

This judgement (or fear) from people comes from the deep beliefs in the decision that they have made to protect themselves and their child’s health. The thought of finding out that you may have possibly seriously harmed your child is devastating for a parent. Often for many people, this fear will present itself as an outburst of abuse. You have probably noticed how heated the issue becomes on the forums and message boards online which really is such a waste of energy on both sides.

It’s certainly much easier to go along with the masses and listen to what everyone else is telling you to do, rather than spend the time making your own informed decision by looking at both sides of the issue in proper detail. Main stream tells us that we HAVE to follow the vaccination schedule or we are putting ourselves and others at incredible risk. It’s really important to look at the other side of the story though – there’s always two sides!

If it’s one thing I have learned in my 35 years or existence, it’s that where there’s smoke there is usually fire and this post is a summary of some of the many months of research I did into this issue – both for and against. The following information is in absolutely no way suggested medical advice nor necessarily suitable for your child. Please make your own decisions when choosing whether or not to vaccinate your particular child.

My beloved and I had conversations with doctors, pharmacists, naturopaths, friends and we learned as much as we could about vaccination to make up our minds for what we should do. We took the time to make an educated decision rather than just doing what everyone else is doing and believing what everyone else is saying. If you’re reading this, I’m presuming you are doing the same thing.

The Argument FOR Vaccination

As you’re most likely aware – the pro-vaccination argument is that vaccinating your child is protecting them from diseases – and some horrible ones to say the least. It’s believed that vaccination has seen the end of small pox, chicken pox, mumps and measles and a whole array of other diseases. The medical world state that ‘vaccines are a modern day miracle of science.’

Sonya Pemberton from Australia created a film called Jabbed which is certainly PRO-immunisation. Sonya said her film is simply advocating to the viewer to please be aware of the consequences involved in NOT vaccinating your child. Her documentary interviewed parents who had children that had vaccine preventable diseases such as whooping cough etc. Here’s an interview with her.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield is a British former surgeon and medical researcher, who is quite famously known in the vaccine debate for his supposively fraudulent 1998 research paper in support of the claim that there is a link between the administration of the Measles, Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine, and autism.

The paper provided case histories for 12 children, exploring incidences of chronic enterocolitis, inflammatory bowel disease and regressive developmental disorder—as well as vaccination with the MMR vaccine.

Vaccination rates in the U.K. plummeted after publication of that paper, and the study helped launch the anti-vaccine movement in the U.S. In a National Consumers League survey conducted in the U.S. last year, one-third of parents with children under the age of 18 and 29 percent of adults overall believe that vaccinations can cause autism.

Several studies have supposively put his hypothesis to the test and looked at thousands of children, not just 12. A 1999 study of 498 children published in The Lancet did not support a causal association between MMR and autism. A 2002 study of 535,544 children vaccinated in Finland showed no association between MMR vaccination and encephalitis, aseptic meningitis or autism. Another 2002 study, which looked at 537,303 children born in Denmark, provided “strong evidence against the hypothesis that MMR vaccination causes autism,” the authors wrote. Wakefield takes issue with the Danish study, saying that the methodology was flawed.

Wakefield was stripped of his license in 2010 by the U.K.’s General Medical Council for ethical violations and failure to disclose potentially competing financial interests. His paper caused so much publicity, it most likely derailed public confidence in vaccination programs that were safely eradicating serious and highly contagious diseases.

The following image shows the PRO-immunisation debate regarding Wakefield and what happened afterwards.

The Argument AGAINST Vaccination

I found the information on the anti-vaccine side of the debate really interesting. There certainly is an indoctrinated belief from those who have studied at medical school that vaccines are safe. I believe this type of anti-vax information is much more easily digested by those who are not in a medical profession, because it must be particularly difficult for someone who has been taught for years that vaccines are safe, that there is the possibility that they actually are not!

The fact that the debate is so polarising clearly shows that reasonable doubt exists.

I was so curious as to what could possibly be stopping people from vaccinating their children? Are they all insane fanatics making meaningless claims without doing any real research?

Here are some of the main anti-vaccine arguments…

A big argument by the anti-vaccination movement is how the drop in diseases was happening, well before the introduction of vaccines. This was because of the discovery of germs, better nutrition, better education and cleaner sanitation which helped prevent disease in a massively undeniable way BEFORE vaccines. The following graphs from Greg Beattie’s site show what I mean.

Tetanus Graph

Whooping Cough and Typhoid Fever Graph

Measles And Scarlet Fever Graph

Whooping Cough Graph

Diptheria Graph

Measles Graph

I actually contacted Greg Beattie who collated these figures and has written 2 books titled ‘Vaccination – A Parent’s Dilemma‘ and ‘Fooling Ourselves On The Fundamental Value Of Vaccines’ to ask him what these figures in these graphs truly say about the efficacy of vaccines. I found his answers to be very objective which was very welcomed. His answer – ‘very little’.

What these graphs can say however, is that the indoctrinated belief that ‘Vaccines are one of the biggest miracles of modern science’ is false. I feel a much safer statement to make would be ‘The discovery of better nutrition, better education, germs and cleaner sanitation is one of the biggest miracles of modern science.’ Judging by the graphs – this certainly has prevented many more diseases being spread than vaccines!

I also found Greg’s information on the amount of Australian children who were vaccinated against whooping cough interesting as well. It’s found here on Greg’s site: http://vaccinationdilemma.com/whooping-cough-australian-children-how-many-were-vaccinated

“For the years 2008-2010, there were a total of 9333 cases of whooping cough reported in children aged 0-4 years. Among them were 754 who were either too young or otherwise not eligible to have been vaccinated, and 1497 for whom vaccine status was not known.

Of the remaining 7082 cases whose vaccine status was known, and who were eligible to have received the vaccine, 5296 (75%) were fully vaccinated for their age. A further 986 (14%) were partly vaccinated. Only 800 (11%) were un-vaccinated.”

I actually phoned the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) through the Australian government to confirm these figures were correct.

The pro-vaccine argue here that it is the fault of the unvaccinated as to why Whooping Cough has been spreading, and so therefore we should vaccinate absolutely everyone. The anti-vaccine argue that in fact – the majority who are reported as having it (and therefore spreading it) are in fact vaccinated! However, because of the widespread indoctrinated belief that vaccines work this notion is completely rejected.

Anti Vaccine Argument: Vaccines DO Cause Autism!

The rates of autism have skyrocketed and it is certainly believed to be something environmental, more so than something genetic.

Some say it’s the actual diagnosis of autism which has improved and that this is the reason why the numbers have risen so much, but many disagree.

The video below is a lecture given by Andrew Wakefield the man I mentioned earlier who has been accused of being a fraud by messing with data to prove that vaccines cause autism.

Wakefield points out that his now infamous study never asserted a causal relationship between the MMR vaccine and autism. “We merely reported the parent’s description of what happened to their children, and the clinical findings,” he said. “We made no claims about the vaccine causing autism. In fact, we said this does not prove an association. And all we urged was further research. We did not prove an association between measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and the syndrome described.”

It is a very interesting video and I highly recommend you watch it to make up your own mind whether this man is truly a fraud or not.

The anti-vax movement believe Wakefield has lost his career and name for simply following the truth his research led him to. He became the scapegoat, the “straw man” to knock down in the mainstream media. Every time someone would bring up any question regarding vaccines and autism you will usually encounter something like: “That theory has been totally proven false, and the guy who made it up was convicted of fraud.”

Dr. Wakefield was however never convicted by a jury or in a court of law, and he lives in the U.S. today. He has issued challenges to his accusers to debate him in the media, but they have never accepted his challenge. He is a leading expert in gut health, a subject sorely needing research today, in an age where not only vaccines, but antibiotics, pesticides, and many other things have destroyed our ability to digest our food properly, leading to many bowel diseases.

In September last year a whistleblower from the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) in the USA came out and stated in public that at the FDA they knew that the vaccines which they were administering were causing autism, and they knowingly covered it up. Here is an article about it on the CNN website: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/08/27/health/irpt-cdc-autism-vaccine-study/

A parent’s instinct is millions and millions of years older than medical science. A parent knows everything about the way their new baby breathes, moves, coughs, sneezes, poos and wees – the whole works! Doctors however don’t listen to parents when they say “I think it was the vaccine. My child was fine and now they are not speaking.” because doctors are TAUGHT that vaccines are safe and chances are it’s not the vaccine that is making the child ill.

It’s possible at the time a vaccine is given it coincides with the time that a child was going to get sick anyway. I feel it’s important to remember though, that maternal instinct has been around for a lot longer than medical science (millions of years in fact) and what a mother is saying should certainly be taken very seriously. But of course, scientifically speaking this argument bears absolutely no weight.

I found this YouTube channel below particularly moving from parents who believe without an ounce of doubt that it was truly vaccines that gave their children autism. Some of these short videos are below.

Pharmaceutical Companies are PRIVATE companies.

It’s important to remember that pharmaceutical companies are PRIVATE companies which need to make a PROFIT to survive. That’s the bottom line. They are not funded by the government, although the government pays them for their vaccines. There are no other bodies in existence that have this type of power. To give you an idea of what pharmaceutical companies have the power to do – check out the video below in relation to the ingredient ‘Thimerosal’ in Vaccine court which has now since been removed from most vaccines (except the adult flu shot). Thimerosal contains mercury and is highly toxic. I found the reaction from these two people from the CDC in vaccine court very interesting… Please fast forward the video below to 20:26 to see what I mean (goes for just a couple of minutes)..

Child Vaccination: Ingredients

What is put IN vaccines really concerns me. They have now taken the mercury out (apart from the adult flu shot), however as for the formaldehyde and aluminium etc. which is still in there I certainly don’t want this inside my tiny baby’s body – no matter how small the amount. However, I also want to guard them from any horrible and life threatening diseases of course. What a pickle for a new parent! Who do you believe?

Here’s a full list of the added things they put in vaccines in Australia here. These extra ingredients are designed among other things to preserve the vaccine and also as an adjuvant (to trigger an immune response).

Some of the questionable ingredients used in vaccinations include:

Aluminium hydroxide

Polysorbate 80 (used as spermicide)

2 Phenoxyethanol (used as an insect repellent)

Formaldehyde (a human carcinogen, cancer causing substance)

Magnesium sulfate (frequently used as a fertilizer)

The movie below by Gary Null is EXTREMELY anti-vaccination. I recommend ignoring the scary music and just listening to the main points.

Child Vaccination: To Conclude..

Vaccination is such a huge debate, and this blog post has not come close to capturing all of it. We are told the serious things that can happen if we don’t vaccinate, but what most people are unaware of is that vaccinating their child is potentially also a massive decision with consequences too.

What I believe is really needed is a MASS STUDY of vaccinated children vs. unvaccinated to really assess whether vaccines are no good for us. This has never been done!

One thing I’m sure about and as I’ve spoken about at events – never do we know all there is to know.

So listen to the SCIENCE on both sides of the debate and then trust your gut. That is the only real advice I can give you in regards to vaccination. Good luck!

  1. This a detailed yet easy to read summary about both sides of the vaccine debate. As a mother I want the best for my children and I do not want them to be harmed in any way. However, I have been attacked and criticized for asking the question “Will vaccines harm my children?”. And believe me those comments were not pretty! I don’t like drama and sensationalism on both sides of the argument. I have chosen at this point in time, not vaccinate but are considering my own modified schedule. There is very little support in Australia from the medical world for people wanting alternate schedules. I have researched, followed my gut and made an informed decision which is more than I can say for most parents who vaccinate their children. And this makes me sad. I feel that parents in this issue are bullied and as a consequence do not ask about the safety of vaccines. So EMPOWER yourselves! Ask, challenge and make genuinely informed decisions.

    • Thankyou Eva. Yes.. everyone should be allowed to make a simple enquiry without getting criticised and bullied (as we have continually been). Thankyou for your thoughts.. 🙂

  2. We live in a world where only money matters. The explosion of Doctors coming out of University need us to get sick. Lots of $$$$$$$$$$$. Professional people DON”T CARE!!! And I don’t Care for their attitude. It’s a SAD World I would rather die of my illness than see a Doctor. An injection Lead to the Brain or Potassium when Pain persists will fix it.

  3. The Theory of Mental Illness.
Billions of people suffer around the world. The National Institute of Mental Illness, says,”It is a disease or deficiency caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that is corrected by psychiatric DRUGS. Global sales of antidepressants, stimulants, anti – anxiety and anti psychotic drugs have reached more than $76 Billion a year.
Twenty Million Schoolchildren worldwide take cocaine – like stimulants and powerful antidepressants.
Psychiatrists have yet to conclusively prove that a single mental illness has a biological or physical cause or a genetic origin. These theories are held onto because there is nothing else to take their place, but also because they are useful in promoting DRUG treatment. What’s wrong with ‘a shoulder to cry on’
